In early 1986, it was awarded a project by the Sarawak State government to computerise the Department of Lands & Surveys in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia. It was the biggest IT project ever undertaken by the Sarawak State government then. The project, called LASIS (Land & Survey Information System), comprises of the development of softwares for the survey and mapping systems, based on Intergraph solutions, integrated with the title registration and revenue collection systems. LASIS was successfully launched by the then Datuk Patinggi Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud, the Right Honourable Chief Minister of Sarawak in August 1988.
In line with the company’s long term commitment to become a major player in the local ICT industry, the company underwent equity restructuring in late 1988 which resulted in COMSERV being fully owned by Sarawakians for the first time. Since then COMSERV has been a member of the highly diversified and profitable Rimbunan Hijau conglomerate.
